Twitter: Creating The Virtual You

It seems like every couple years a new type of social media comes out and they all seem to be pretty similar. The last couple years Twitter has became the most popular social media out there and it's for many reasons. To me Twitter is basically like a portable diary where people write out every single thought they have for the world to see. However, most people are very careful to only write stuff that portrays them in a positive manner. Just like every other social media people can determine how other people view them. People are very careful to not put something that will make them look bad which makes me wonder if people are even honest on social media. Is a lot of stuff on Twitter just lies that make people look good? People have even went so far to delete tweets if they don't get a certain amounts of favorites or retweets in a certain amount of time. It makes me wonder if social media is changing us into a bunch of fake, self- determined, virtual people. I have even seen relationships get ruined over Twitter. People get mad if their significant others are " cyber flirting" or saying bad stuff about them. Also now there is subtweeting where people talk about somebody without directly saying it to them. I have a feeling when Twitter was first made it wasn't made for these reasons. How long will social media last and what impact is it going to have on our future.
