I agree that sports and games have an influence on
gamers. However, unlike most I do not
only think it’s a negative influence. Similar
to class, I believe that video games do allow gamers to have a voice in their
own virtual world and this gives them the feel of solving real world problems. Most
of the popular games like “Call of Duty” and such give gamers the feeling that
they have saved someone’s life or stopped a huge problem in the world such as
poverty. Although I think these games do
give gamers that feeling, I don’t think it will ever transfer into the real
world. For example, a lot of people
mentioned in class that just because they play violent video games, it doesn’t
mean they will go in the streets and kill everyone. I feel the same way as far as solving world
issues. They may do it in the game, but
that does not mean they will go in the real world and solve anything. I think,
with the proper research and dedication to this issue, that maybe some people
will see the connection between the virtual world and reality, but I think a
lot of gamers play to feel like empowered individuals at the end and when the
game goes off that’s it. I have never
heard of this idea and I didn’t know that people even took time to research
such, furthermore getting a degree in it, so it really amazes me that there
could possibly be a positive connection between video games and solving real
world issues.
