After reading this article, I couldn’t help but chuckle to
myself and think how crazy of a claim it made.
My opinion on this topic may be somewhat biased, considering that I was
raised to believe that video games did nothing more than “fry your brain”. My belief of this was somewhat changed after
examining the facts of the article because they showed some impressive
figures. I applaud the efforts of the
developers of these “games” but at the same time I don’t think this could be a
lucrative method of ending world problems.
In impoverished countries that have no solid source of food
and clean water, they live day-to-day and have little regard for much
else. With that being said, does it
really seem plausible for these countries to receive state of the art video
game technology before receiving basic human necessities? I mean let’s be
honest here, people. Even if this
program was developed to the point where it actually worked, I feel that the
world would have already solved this food crisis for third world
countries. It’s not a matter of funding
per say, but one of priority.
Even if our country adopted this system to help aid other
countries, there would still have to be negotiating with the other target
countries in order to put the program into effect. Given that these countries have been
digressing behind more fortunate ones for quite some time now, I don’t think
that they would welcome the idea of investing in a mere “video game” to solve
all of their problems. Like I said
before, I feel that a more cost-effective method would be found before
implementing a video game to solve these serious issues.
