Young Girls: Just Be Kids For Now

Based on the reading that we did of the article "Motherlode," I have even more of an urge to reach out to young girls and show them that they are worth more than they think. Someone needs to do it but it seems as though no one is because many young girls starve for attention through social media.

I believe that most girls suffer from not having a close and personal relationship with their fathers. I am not saying every girl who is not close with her father is messed up and starving for attention, but I am saying that those who are starving for attention from others is most likely due to not getting it from their fathers. On Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media sites I am sure, girls post pictures and other things to see how many "likes" they can get. But not just from anyone, as the article states. Girls mainly want likes from boys.

I am currently studying English Rhetoric and Writing in pursuit of writing books and one of the age groups I am dying to reach through my writing are girls and young women (or women of any age, really) because they need to know that they do not have to put up a front and put on a fake act to get attention. In the end none of that will matter anyway. It is sad to see girls who are so young posting scandalous photos and using profanity and acting "grown up" when they really just need to be a kid.

My little sister, who is almost 12, is one of the most perfect examples of a kid. She is not at all into boys, she does not have a cell phone, a Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. She has SnapChat and an iTouch, which she only uses to SnapChat a few of her girlfriends as well as our other sister and myself. She is obsessed with Pinterest and making crafts for people and she loves to play with her dollhouses, Barbies, and stuffed animals. She also plays outside with our cats most of the time. Those are the things young girls should be doing. Not taking bikini photos and posting them on the internet. Girls need to stop trying to grow up and learn to just be kids because the grown up stage will come later.... and then they will realize how it is not as glamorous as it seems!
