I am a waitress at Olive Garden and last week there was a
father that came in with his 4 year old daughter. I approached the table
and asked what each of them wanted to drink. Both of them ordered a soft
drink, however that little girl wanted to know if she could drink her soft
drink out of a wine glass. I wasn't sure if that was appropriate or not
because she ordered a sprite and that could easily be mistaken for a sparkling
wine. So I told the table that I would have to check and ask a
manager. When I said that, the little girl instantly threw a fit.
When this happened I instantly thought about princess culture because it is so
real. Little girls feel like they are entitled to anything they ask for
and when they don't get it, it's a problem. When this culture was
initially presented in class, I didn't really believe it existed in "real
life". However, when I finally experienced it, I found that it is
really sad. What's even sadder is the parents that allow it to
happen. When the little girl started throwing a fit, the father looked at
me as if I was supposed to do something. In conclusion, princess culture does
exist. However, I feel like it is more
prevalent in the young girls today rather than my generation. I think princess culture is bad, because
children in general need to know they’re not entitled to anything in the real
world.
