Masculinity in television

We talked about a couple weeks ago about masculinity on T.V. The article that we read said that men are just one thing for example, a guy can be extremely good looking but not be intelligent. So many television shows portray this image that a man can only be one thing. One of the television shows that stand out in my mind would have to be Two& Half Men. I have only seen this television show a couple of times but it shows the two main characters Charlie and Allen as being just one thing. Allen is the father of a boy who is gay and very intelligent, while on the other hand Charlie is the ladies’ man you can say and has all the charm and looks to get women. Another television show which I must say I watch every night would be Full House. This show portrays what the author was saying also by the three men who are the main characters of this show. First you have Danny who is a single parent of three girls and is a complete neat freak, uptight, and loving father. The other two main characters are Joey and Jessie. Joey is the best friend who is the comedian of the family who is always up for fun, while Jessie is the uncle has all the looks and is a rock star. Together they make up one man but separately they each just have one thing. Having this shown on television I believe is giving men the wrong impression. Showing men that they can only be one way is not true at all nor would you only want to be looked at as one way. For example, they could show that if you’re a man you can only be strong and that you never cry. Well you know what guys! Girls like it when guys have emotions it makes us feel much closer to them in an emotional way. Television shows I believe show that they have an incomplete faith about men, which I think they should have faith in men that they can be more than one way and  I think the media needs to start showing that in movies and also television.
