King of the Nerds

What happens when you mix reality T.V. and a lot of home grown nerds desperate for attention/cash? King of the Nerds! Reality T.V. is good at one thing destroying cultures and bringing out the worst in people. Read this review by IGN When I first watched it I had a very mix feeling about whole thing because I knew TBS didn't care one bit about the culture they just wanted there cash and as long as they got it the show would stay on the air.

I for the longest time considered myself to be geeky but the realized this show had one major flaw. It did not explore the people who may be slightly geeky but also into other things. They come up with there own categories to put people in and as a viewer we are expected to just accept that. They are the typical comic nerd, the video gamer nerd, even the astrophysicist nerd. Why can't we talk about the normal nerd who enjoys fantasy football for instance? That's a simple answer that would not sell on television. The show has a strong following of people who think it sends a good awareness well others believe it spreads mix messages.

Another show that is really popular with exploring this "nerd" phenomenon is the Big Bang Theory. I personally enjoy this show because I love the wonderful scriptwriting and the humor present throughout. However, it does not send the right message. Read this bloggers opinion The problem behind the show is its blatant disregard for respect. Why should we label anyone even if its in a positive light. The truth is its not cool to be a nerd and it never was or will be. Thats what is so cool about being a nerd in the first place; not everyone does it. Lets respect everyone (even nerds) and stand up to exploitation.
