Branding and advertising are everywhere. From
a label that is strategically placed in a television show to a small symbol on
a shirt, various products are always targeting consumers. Personally, I have
become accustomed to it and look at it as a part of society. There are labels,
symbols, and slogans for every product and people can recognize them
immediately. Businesses create images for their products and consumers look for
the label that will represent them in the way they want to be seen.
But what would happen if a product refused to
advertise? What if there were no commercials targeting mothers, children,
families, or teenagers? This seems silly. Realistically, would a company even
be able to survive without the competitive nature that is seen in other
businesses? It almost seems that they would get pushed aside for the more
flashy name-brand products that advertise happiness and beauty all in a bottle.
However, one company dared to be different and decided that they wouldn’t produce
any commercials. No commercials, just a product.
No-Ad Sunscreen has never produced a
commercial and they are still thriving fifty years later. They are twice the
size of national brands and have been named a “Best Buy” by a national source
for four years in a row. They offer all the same types of sun care that you
would find through a national brand – general, sport, kids, tanning, and after
sun. They also have been highly recommended through online consumer reviews. Personally,
it is all my family ever uses in our household.
It’s pretty amazing that a product can not
only still exist but also become a leader in their field without ever
strategically placing a label or filming an extravagant commercial. So how does
this product make a name for itself? Through word of mouth and proof in the
value of the product. It’s refreshing to know that people use a product that
refuses to succumb to the common strategies and tricks that other companies are
using on their consumers.
